Warwick Question Time Part 3!

1

Join us for the first Warwick Question Time of Term 2! As is customary, all the three main parties will be represented, as well as a few other notable campus politicos.

If the first and second editions is anything to go by, we can expect a vigorous and excellent debate, so come along and prepare to give the panellists a grilling! However, if you can’t make it in person, @warwickpolsoc will be posting live Twitter updates throughout. Simply affix #warwickqt to your tweets and have your say!

Afterwards, we will head to the Dirty Duck – where no doubt the debate will rage on into the night…

An inside perspective on the 2012 elections – a talk by Sharlina Hussain-Morgan

0

On Thursday of Week 3, the Politics Society will be hosting a talk from Sharlina Hussain-Morgan. Sharlina is an Assistant Cultural Attache at the US Embassy in Grosvenor Square, having joined the American Foreign Service in 2011. Prior to this, she lived in Cairo working with local women’s rights organizations and the UN. She is heading back to Cairo in 2013 for her next diplomatic assignment.

The topic of her talk will be the American elections, and the content of it will self-evidently be influenced by the results of the upcoming Republican primary in South Carolina. The talk will be followed by a Q&A, as well as a drinks reception – a great opportunity to ask Sharlina questions on topics ranging from foreign policy, the special relationship or how to get into the field of diplomacy and the foreign service.

Great event for those of you who are interested in US politics, and would like the opportunity to network with a member of the Obama administration!

This is a Politics Society event, but non-members are also welcome to attend.attend. http://www.facebook.com/events/275866865801184/

2nd Question Time

With the Eurozone seemingly collapsing around our ears, Warwick Politics Society invite you to pick your way through the (figurative) debris, and join us for the second Warwick Question Time of the term! As is customary, all the three main parties will be represented, as well as a few other notable campus politicos.

If the first edition is anything to go by, we can expect a vigorous and excellent debate, so come along and prepare to give the panellists a grilling! Elections!

0

Hi guys!

The Politics Society will be running elections on Wednesday of Week 7 (16th Nov) for three deputy exec positions! If you’re a fresher or second year, this is an excellent opportunity to get involved in what the society’s doing this year, and great preparation for running for a more senior position in next year’s exec.

We are looking to elect the following deputy officers:

Deputy Academic Officer – You will be assisting Ben in organising academic events. This involves confirming panellists for Warwick Question Time debates, arranging talks for our members, and planning for a European trip in Term 2.

Deputy Publications Officer - You will be assisting Peter in publishing the society magazine, Perspectives. This involves proof-reading articles, sending emails asking for contributions and promoting the magazine.

Deputy Social Secretary – You will be assisting Rachel in organising socials, whether they be casual meals, big nights out or something else – be creative!

If you’re interested in running for any of the above three positions, send us an email (su287@sunion.warwick.ac.uk) stating your name, and which position you’d like to stand for. Before the election, make sure to prepare a speech of no more than 150 words, explaining why you’d be suited for the role, and setting out some of your ideas for improving PolSoc. If you absolutely can’t make the vote in person, but still want to stand for a position, please let us know and email the text of your speech to us so it can be read out in the meeting!

Ideal candidates need not have vast amounts of society experience – indeed, even if you’ve never been on a society exec before, we still want to hear from you if you’re proactive, able to work well in a team, and enthusiastic about making PolSoc a better society!

Warwick Question Time

0

It’s been a busy summer: The Murdoch Empire humbled; supposed near economic collapse in the financial markets; apparent social collapse with riots across England and now the collapse of the Gaddafi regime.

Against this backdrop we’ll have representatives of Warwick Labour, Lib Dems, Conservatives and Libertarians (plus maybe a few others!) to debate in the first Warwick Question Time of the year!

Everyone’s welcome to attend. If you have an interest in politics or current affairs please come along, the event will most likely be followed up with a trip to the Dirty Duck too.

Further details will be added closer to the event date but it will be held on Thursday the 13th, click for the Facebook Event.

Please note David Dimbleby probably won’t be attending.
